Cooperating Organizations
Young & Healthy represents a wide cross-section of our community, including local hospitals, the Pasadena Public Health Department, Pasadena Unified School District, health professionals, community leaders and volunteers. Young & Healthy was founded by the Health Coalition. This group was convened by the Office for Creative Connections of All Saints Church in April of 1988 in response to the report this office issued, The Health of Pasadena's Children: An Assessment of Needs and Resources.
The Office for Creative Connections, an outreach program of All Saints Episcopal Church, was established in 1984 with the mission to identify urban needs and to bring together coalitions of concerned individuals, organizations and agencies to work on collaborative solutions. For the first five years, Young & Healthy operated under the umbrella of the Office for Creative Connections. Young & Healthy is now separately incorporated and holds its own non-profit status, 501(c)(3).
Young & Healthy is funded primarily by foundations, local organizations, individuals and by in-kind donations of participating institutions. WE ACCEPT NO DIRECT STATE OR FEDERAL FUNDS.
Up & Moving Pasadena
Up & Moving Pasadena is a community-wide effort to support fitness for health in greater Pasadena. We provide support and incentives for groups to create walking programs. Up & Moving Pasadena is a collaborative effort between City of Pasadena departments, Pasadena Unified School District, local business, and non-profit organizations.
As a co-founder of Up & Moving Pasadena, Young & Healthy also underlines the health benefits of exercise for children in our fitness programs, and support and promote Up & Moving Pasadena. Our staff members (click here) have committed themselves to walking one mile for every child who received direct health care from a doctor last year through us - 1,084 children. Well on our way walking those many miles, we are proud and delighted to be affiliated with this wonderfully effective - and fun - fitness program!
